White Team 10 - Blue Team 7

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA., June 5, 2009 – Senior John Reisinger kicked a 37-yard field goal with 1:04 left to give the White Team a hard-fought 10-7 victory over the Blue Team in Santa Margarita's 22th Spring Game held on campus before a vocal and enthusiastic crowd of about 500 fans on June 5, 2009.

The Blue Team, led by Defensive Coordinator John Byszewski, struck first as junior QB Reiley Higgins found a streaking Logan Sweet down the left sidelines for 42-yard touchdown and a quick 7-0 lead. Sweet, who was a 2008 All-State selection as a sophomore, led all players with 36 yards rushing on just two carries and added another nine-yard reception later in the game. Higgins was an efficient four of eight passing on the day for 80 yards and added a nifty 16-yard scramble to extend a drive near the end of the third quarter.

The White Team, coached by long-time assistant Scott McIntosh, tied the score on the last play of the half as junior QB Bobby Crane found junior TE Aaron Chancellor for a four-yard score in the back of the endzone. It culminated an impressive 85-yard drive in which Crane completed all seven of his passes including a key 35-yard pass to Emmet O'Brien on third-and-five from the 50 with under 30 seconds to go in the half.

The defense controlled the game for the most part as six of the first eight series did not generate a first down and the White Team in particular showcased an impressive defensive game plan as they produced eight sacks on the night and allowed only seven pass completions. With each team struggling to produce points it appeared the game might end in a tie. However, with four minutes left Crane calmly took over at his 35 and led his team down the field as he dumped off a screen to Tyson for five, handed off to Tyson for a gain of 11, and three plays later found Reisinger for a 25-yard completion on third-and-eleven to keep the drive alive. After two runs generated five yards and an incomplete pass McIntosh sent in Reisinger who easily cleared the crossbar to give the White Team it's only lead of the game.

Crane finished the day 12 of 20 for 150 yards while senior RB Spencer Tyson led the White Team with 28 yards rushing and junior WR Jeff Emanuel led all receivers with three catches for 57 yards. Senior DB Chris Martello of the Blue Team recorded the games only turnover with a third quarter interception.
