Matt Rupp (6-3, 255) ) is a three-year varsity starter and is having an outstanding senior season. Has been named Player of the Game 11 times in 33 varsity games. He’s coming off a monster 2002 season and is a solid All-league, All-County and All-CIF candidate.

In 2003: Rupp continues to produce despite receiving double team blocking each game. Matt produced nine tackles and his 10th sack of the season vs. Mater Dei. He now has a career-high 60 tackles and has at least one tackle in the backfield in all 10 games. Rupp picked up six tackles against Servite. He posted five tackles and his ninth sack of the season at St. John Bosco in Week 7. The week before, Matt showcased his amazing skills as he logged nine tackles - including four sacks - with seven of the nine tackles for losses at Bishop Amat. The four sacks tied his own school record set at Trabuco Hills in 2002. Has been named Defensive Lineman of the Game four weeks in a row. Matt earned Defensive Lineman of the game honors for the third consecutive week as he collected a career-high 10 tackles including 1 ½ sacks against Trabuco Hills. Rupp was named Defensive Lineman of the Game vs. Fountain Valley as he registered three tackles, ½ sack and a fumble recovery. It was the fourth consecutive game in which he recovered a fumble – a new team record. Matt enjoyed one of the best all around games by a defensive lineman in Eagle history against Long Beach Jordan in Week 3. Rupp collected six tackles, forced a fumble, recovered his team-high third fumble of the season and registered two sacks. Rupp had six tackles at Redlands and recovered his second fumble of the season. Matt also had one decleater block giving him three on the season. Rupp had three tackles and recovered a fumble against St. Paul in Week 1. Matt had three tackles for losses at Foothill in the pre-season scrimmage.

in 2002 and finished seventh on the team with 53 total tackles. Matt finished up the season with three tackles, a sack and a forced fumble at Esperanza. Matt had a career-high 11 tackles against Bishop Amat in Week 10. Rupp shares the record for sacks in a game with four (vs. Trabuco Hills). Matt tied the single-season career mark of 13.5 set by Joe Winklemann in 1992. The junior standout picked up six tackles, two sacks and one decleater against Mater Dei in earning Defensive Lineman of the Game honors in Week 9. Rupp picked up six tackles against Loyola including a key stop in the backfield on an attempted fumbleroosky. Matt registered one sack and three tackles at Servite. Matt registered ½ sack and eight tackles against St. John Bosco. Rupp tied a record-tying four sacks at Trabuco Hills. Matt also had 1 ½ sacks, 1 ½ decleaters and a fumble recovery at Fountain Valley in Week 4. Rupp recorded two decleaters and 1 ½ sacks vs. Dorsey, and in Week 2 he picked up a team-high three decleaters vs. Redlands. Matt was a dominating force on both offense and defense vs. El Modena as he recorded a team-high 2.5 decleaters from his guard spot and two tackles including a sack playing defensive tackle. He is second on the team with 13 decleaters.

In 2001, Matt opened some eyes with his standout play on the defensive line. He finished with 53 tackles, 7 ½ sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery and earned All-Serra League honors. Rupp picked up a career-high nine tackles vs. Tustin. Enjoyed his most memorable game against Loyola where he collected seven tackles and 2 ½ sacks. Recorded four tackles and a forced fumble in his first varsity start against Ayala in Week 1 and followed that up by collecting five tackles and 1 ½ sacks at Los Alamitos in Week 2 then eight tackles and a sack at Lakewood in Week 3. Made a critical fourth quarter sack vs. Mater Dei to help seal an important 33-19 victory. Earned Defensive Lineman of the Game honors vs. Los Alamitos (twice) and Loyola.

Misc: Rupp is an exceptionally quick and agile player who has emerged as a legitimate Division I-A recruit for 2004. He is a member of the 900 lb and Strength Eagle Clubs and can bench press 295, power clean 275, squat 425 and run the 40 in 4.85.
