DL Brandt Jesperson was chosen to play for the South Team in the annual Orange County All-Star Game. The game annually features the top 72 graduated football players in Orange County.

Esperanza 41 - Eagles 7
Santa Margarita’s 14th varsity season, and fourth in Division I, came to a close after a disappointing 41-7 loss to Sunset League power Anaheim Esperanza in the first round of the CIF-SS Division I Playoffs before 4,000 at Valencia High School’s Bradford Stadium. The Aztec’s, behind Shaun Wildenstein’s 207 yards rushing and three touchdowns, improved to 10-1 and moved on to face Mater Dei in the quarterfinals while the Eagles finished their year at 6-5.

Santa Margarita (6-4, 1-4), No. 20 in The Times’ rankings, suffered a first-to-worst turnaround in league play but will probably receive an at-large postseason berth because of its six victories and difficult non-league schedule. The Eagles trailed by 10 points late in the fourth quarter and had a chance to cut the deficit to eight on a two-point conversion attempt, but receiver Bobby Whithorne was stopped just short of the goal line after catching a pass from Case Colaw.

Eagles 19 - Mater Dei 0
Ashton White scored two touchdowns to lead the Eagles to a 19-0 shutout of arch-rival Mater Dei before 4,500 rain soaked fans at Trabuco Hills High School. The victory was the Eagles third convincing win in a row over the Monarchs since being shutout themselves 34-0 in 1999 and improved their season mark to 6-3, 1-3. The SM defense came up big holding Mater Dei to under 100 total yards and 0 points. DT Matt Rupp had a big night breaking the career sack record as only a junior. Offensively the Eagles controlled the Line of Scrimmage rushing for over 150 yards and dominated the time of posession with long drives.

Loyola 7 - Eagles 0
Bo Renaud rushed for 140 yards and scored the games only touchdown from one yard out as the Loyola Cubs avenged last years defeat of the Eagles with a 7-0 win before 3,500 at Glendale High School. The loss dropped the Eagles to 5-3 and 0-3 in league play while the Cubs moved to 6-2 and 1-2.

Servite 35 - Eagles 20
The Servite Friars pounded out 346 yards rushing led by Joel Rubalcaba's 170 yards in handing the Eagles a 35-20 setback before 5,000 at Cal State Fullerton. The loss was the Eagles second consecutive defeat of the season and dropped their record to 5-2.

St. John Bosco 28 - Eagles 23
Quarterback Joe Suaza scored three touchdowns to lead the St. John Bosco Braves to a 28-23 win over the Eagles before an overflow homecoming crowd at Saddleback College. It their first ever victory over the Eagles in six tries and moved them to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Eagles (5-1, 0-1) suffered their first loss of the season and tumbled out of the national and regional rankings as they regroup to play Servite. Slinkard's 14 tackles led the defense; however, strong performances were also had by Jack Meehan (13 tackles), Reinhardt (eight tackles and two fumble recoveries) and Matt Rupp (eight tackles and ½ sack)

Eagles 37 - Trabuco Hills 7
The Eagles excelled in all phases of their game as they posted a commanding 37-7 win over a talented Trabuco Hills team before a capacity crowd at Trabuco Hills High. Leading the way was junior DT Matt Rupp who spearheaded a dominating defensive effort as he tied the school record for sacks in a game (four) and pressured heralded QB Brian White into a season worst nine of 21 passing for 110 yards and no touchdowns. The Eagles, who have forced 13 turnovers and have given up only 38 points so far this year, improved to 5-0 for the first time since 1997, while the Mustangs dropped to 3-2.

Eagles 28 - Fountain Valley 7
Santa Margarita shook off a sluggish first half and used the running of Ashton White to score on three of their first four second half possessions to post a 28-7 win over the winless Fountain Valley Barons before 2,500 at Huntington Beach High School. The win improved the Eagles to 4-0 on the season and marks their best start since the 1997 team went 14-0. Fountain Valley fell to 0-4.

The Eagles posted their first shutout since 1998 as senior linebacker Dustin Slinkard forced two key turnovers to lead Santa Margarita to a workmanlike 5-0 win over defending City Section Champion Los Angeles Dorsey before 4,000 fans at Saddleback College. The win improved the Eagles record to 3-0, while the Dons fell to 1-2.

Eagles 38 - Redlands 14
Santa Margarita, behind a punishing ground game and an active defense, soundly defeated the fourth-ranked Redlands Terriers 38-14 before 5,500 at Saddleback College. The Eagles, entering the game ranked seventh in Division I, used 180 yards rushing on 29 carries by tailback Ashton White and 108 on 14 totes from fullback Chase McWhorter to control the clock for over 33 minutes and rack up 460 total yards of offense (including 365 on the ground). The win improved the Eagles record to 2-0 for the first time since 1998 heading into their intersectional match-up with Los Angeles Dorsey.

Eagles 17 - El Modena 10
The Eagles began their 14th varsity season with a methodical 17-10 over the El Modena Vanguards before approximately 3,500 fans at Cal State Fullerton behind the strong running of Ashton White and a sensational contribution from backup QB Mark Sanchez. Sanchez, a sophomore, came off the bench in relief of starter Case Colaw and facing a 3rd and 15 on his first varsity snap threw a 55-yard scoring strike to Bobby Whithorne on the first play of the fourth quarter to put Santa Margarita up 14-10. The Eagles (1-0) subsequently forced two fourth quarter turnovers and kicked a late field goal to hold of a spirited El Modena (0-1) team to improve to 2-0-1 in their last three season openers at Titan Stadium.
