Tyler picked up seven tackles vs. Mater Dei, and is fourth on the team with 47 on the year. Tyler tied a school record for touchdowns in a game as he ran for three (49, 54 and one yard) and returned a kickoff 88 yards for another vs. St. John Bosco. Tyler rushed for a career-high 130 yards on only 10 carries and also added 9 tackles. The 49 and 54-yard runs were the longest of his career. Tyler caught a career-high five passes for 45 yards, scored on a 13-yard run vs. Alemany. Tyler returned a fumble 23-yards for a Td and added four tackles vs. Bishop Amat to be named Defensive Player of the Game. Tyler also added two receptions for a career-high 56 yards. Tyler rushed for two touchdowns and picked up five tackles at Rancho Bernardo. Tyler four times for 52 yards including a 41-yard scamper, scored a touchdown and added six tackles vs. San Clemente. The Captain picked up 8 tackles at Carlsbad after rushing for a team high 85 yards (one touchdown) and blocking a PAT and returning a punt 17 yards against Lincoln in Week 1.

1998: rushed for 362 yards and four touchdowns and collected 64 total tackles. Tyler collected a career-high 14 tackles at Tustin. In Week 11 at Aliso Niguel, Thompson rushed four times for 55 yards including a 27-yard touchdown run. Tyler registered six tackles and a forced fumble vs. Woodbridge in Week 10 to earn Defensive Player of the Game honors. Thompson displayed his speed at Newport Harbor as he raced 38 yards on an option play for his third touchdown of the season. He also added four tackles. Thompson had his best offensive showing of his young career at El Toro as he rushed for 80 yards on 10 carries including 24- and 25-yard runs. He also added a 23-yard kickoff return. The first-year starter collected six tackles and rushed twice for 20 yards against Rancho Bernardo. Tyler collected four tackles and rushed twice for 31 yards including a 24-yard touchdown run at San Clemente. Tyler played a key role in the Dana Hills game as his first career reception (20 yards) set up the game clinching touchdown. He also collected two tackles including one for a loss. Thompson demonstrated his versatility as he returned a kickoff 29 yards, scored his first career touchdown on a 17-yard run and added seven tackles vs. Carlsbad. Tyler led the team in average per carry (7.4) and scored on runs of 38, 27, 24 and 17 yards. Thompson finished third on the team with 362 yards rushing, and 7th with 64 tackles.

1997: Tyler rushed for 1,501 yards and 26 touchdowns for the freshman team, and rushed once for two yards vs. El Toro in Week 10. Thompson dressed for five varsity games. He helped anchor the Eagles' CIF winning 4 x 400-relay team.

Misc: Has 88 carries for 574 yards (6.5), 13 receptions for 154 yards, and 95 tackles in his career. Thompson, is the first junior to be named a Captain, and in 1998, was the first sophomore to be a War Eagle a feat he repeated this year.
