This is the second game between Santa Margarita and the Dorsey Dons and the second meeting between the Eagles and a Los Angeles City Section school. In 2002, The Eagles posted their first shutout since 1998 as senior linebacker Dustin Slinkard forced two key turnovers to lead Santa Margarita to a workmanlike 5-0 win over defending City Section Champion Dorsey before 4,000 fans at Saddleback College. The Dons entered the contest sporting a 2-0 record and the game was a match-up of solid defensive units as neither team was able to consistently threaten the other. A 42-yard field goal by Jason Graban and a safety by Josh Thornburg provided the scoring, while Ashton White led the offense with 106 yards rushing. A full recap of the 2002 games is included herein.
The Dons finished 12-1 in 2003 losing to Carson 19-18 in the
LA City Section Semi-finals. They are led by longtime Head Coach
Paul Knox who is 164-66-1 and has won six Coliseum League Titles
in his 20 years.
