Matt picked up 12 tackles against Irvine to continue his outstanding string of games since moving from linebacker to the defensive line. Matt registered 15 tackles, 0.5 sacks and broke up a pass at Aliso Niguel and also had 13 tackles against Woodbridge in Week 10. Szkalak caught his first two passes of the season at Newport Harbor for 24 yards. Matt did not play at San Clemente or against Rancho Bernardo due to a minor injury, but saw action at TE vs. El Toro and CdM while he recovered from a nagging injury. Szkalak was off to a great start this year as he picked up 12 tackles and broke up a pass at Dana Hills and posting nine tackles at LB and received a 75% grade for his efforts at TE vs. Carlsbad. In Week 1, Matt had a great game against Dominguez recording 11 tackles in his first varsity start and helped limit the Dons to 192 yards and 11 first downs. On the year Matt has totaled 77 tackles – 5th best on the team.

1997: Matt rushed for 17 yards on three carries with a long of 10 yards vs. Irvine as a sophomore.

Misc: Matt is a gifted young athlete who runs a 4.80 40, and posted a 4.30 pro-agility time. He is a War Eagle who is expected to be a Division I prospect next year.
