PLAYOFF HISTORY
Santa Margarita reached the Division IX quarterfinals last year, its first season with a varsity squad. This year's team is the first with seniors.
KEY STATISTICS
Running back Josh Ireland has rushed for 1,229 yards, and quarterback Trevor Yankoff has passed for 1,087 yards (81 of 146) as the Eagles swept through a freelance schedule. Mike Farris, an All-CIF linebacker as a junior, has intercepted five passes this year and helped Santa Margarita shut out three teams and hold three others to seven points or less.
OUTLOOK
Hartigan wasn't happy about being placed in Division IV this year, but several coaches weren't happy seeing the undefeated Eagles there either. If Santa Margarita wins Friday, it probably would face Valle Vista champion Walnut in the quarterfinals. To reach the finals, the Eagles probably would have to get by another unbeaten team, Canyon Springs, in the semifinals.
