The First Friday Friars, a Catholic Men’s Organization annually honors a scholar football player from an Orange County Catholic High School, who most represents the qualities that “Zug” Zastrow epitomized: belief in God, love of family, civic duty, and of course, football.

Jonathan Dawson was chosen to play for the South Team in the annual Orange County All-Star Game. The game annually features the top 72 graduated football players in Orange County.

OL Tom Roby was named All-CIF Division 1. He is the first Eagle center to earn this honor. Roby was also named to the OC Register All-County First Team.

OL Tom Roby was named the Serra League MVP Lineman. RB John Angelo, QB Jon Daniels, WR Ryan Maxwell, DB J.D. Dawson, and P Thomas Hull were named 1st Team All-Serra League. OL Matt Bahr, OL Brad Dixon, WR Jacob Gordon, LB Kyle Aldridge, LB Ross Cumming, and DL Andrew Johnson were named 2nd Team.

The Eagles failed to convert on a 2pt conversion in overtime losing in the first round of the playoffs. QB Jon Daniels finished the night 15/26 for 183 yards, 1TD and 1 INT. RB John Angelo rushed 17 times for 77 yards. Running backs Adam Hovsepian and Chris MacLean each scored 1 TD. Wide Receiver Ryan Maxwell caught 6 passes for 85 yards and 1 TD. On defense DB JD Dawson had 12 tackles (5 solo, 7 asst). LB Kyle Aldridge had 11 tackles (5 solo, 6 asst). DB John Angelo had 10 tackles (5 solo, 5 asst). Defensive lineman Andrew Johnson had 5 tackles (2 solo, 3 asst) and 1.5 sacks.

Servite 35 - Eagles 34
The Eagles rallied from a two touchdown deficit behind John Angelo's record-tying four touchdown. Unfortunately the Eagles fell 35-34 when a two-point conversion pass from Jon Daniels to Nick Pizzurro failed with 0:26 remaining. RB John Angelo rushed 19 times for 161 yards and 4 TDs. QB John Daniels was 10/17 for 119 yards and 1 TD. WR Jacob Gordon caught 4 passes for 67 yards.

Eagles 29 - St. John Bosco 23
The Eagles gained a season-high 408 yards - including a career-high 157 on the ground by John Angelo – as they defeated the St. John Bosco Braves 29-23 before a crowd of 4,000 at Fr. Frank Ribotta Field.  The win snapped the Eagles’ three-game losing streak to the Braves (3-6, 1-3) and propelled the Eagles (5-4, 2-2) into sole possession of third place in the Serra League.

Eagles 32 - Bishop Amat 22
John Angelo rushed for a career-high 122 yards, Jon Daniels passed for 215 yards and three scores and the Eagle defense came up with enough key plays to lead the visitors to a critical 32-22 win over the Bishop Amat Lancers at Kiefer Stadium. The win ended a disappointing three game losing streak and improved the Eagles to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in Serra League play, while the loss dropped the Lancers to 5-3, 1-2.

QB Jon Daniels was 12 of 22 for 104 yards. Unfortunately a sack and overthrown pass forced the Eagles to punt. Kyle Aldridge intercepted a pass from Matt Barkley and returned it 16 yards. RB John Angelo had 16 carries for 73 yards and 1 TD. JD Dawson and Ross Cumming led the team with 11 tackles while sophomore sensation Logan Harrell registered 1 ½ sacks to set a new sophomore record for sacks in a season with 8 ½ surpassing Matt Rupp’s record of 8 set in 2001.

Daniels was 26/39 for 306 yards. WR Ryan Maxwell caught 7 receptions for 153 yards. Defensively Kyle Aldridge spearheaded the defensive effort with 10 tackles while JD Dawson had nine of his own and another forced fumble.  (He forced a school-record three at Loyola last year).  Sophomore defensibe lineman sensation Logan Harrell recorded his team leading seventh sack.

Foothill 22 - Eagles 21
QB Jon Daniels was 17 of 23 for 195 yards and 2 TDs. WR Ryan Maxwell caught 5 passes for 54 yards and 1 TD. Maxwell also returned a punt 59 yards for a TD. Junior MLB Kyle Aldridge spearheaded the defensive charge with 19 tackles while JD Dawson added 12 of his own.  Sophomore sensation Logan Harrell added 2.5 sacks to increase his team lead to six.

Eagles 21 - Fountain Valley 9
Jon Daniels tossed two touchdown passes and junior RB Chris Spangenberg ran for 63 yards and a score as the Eagles rebounded from last weeks loss to Orange Lutheran to defeat the Fountain Valley Barons 21-9 before a raucous crowd of 6,000 for homecoming. The Eagles played outstanding defensively as they limited the Barons to 237 yards and only one TD while forcing three turnovers and five sacks. Sophomore defensive tackle Logan Harrell recovered a fumble and logged 1½ sacks to lead the defense while Fred Carrera added 1½ sacks on his own.

Orange Lutheran 22 - Eagles 19
After throwing three interceptions and falling behind 19-0 at halftime QB Aaron Corp tossed a 17-yard touchdown to Kyle Cordova with 1:07 remaining to give the visiting Orange Lutheran Lancers a stunning 22-19 comeback victory over the Eagles before an overflow crowd of 6,000 at Saddleback College. QB Jon Daniels was 10 of 18 for 131 yards and 1TD. WR Ryan Maxwell caught five receptions for 89 yards and had 2 interceptions on defense. RB Jon Angelo rushed 25 times for 101 yards and 1 TD. He also intercepted an Aaron Corp pass and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown. Defensively Ross Cumming led the team with 18 tackles.

Eagles 27 - Dorsey 21
Ryan Maxwell scored three touchdowns in three different ways and set three school records along the way as the Eagles defeated State ranked (no. 12) and the no. 1 ranked LA Section Dorsey Dons 27-21 before a crowd on 3,000 at Jackie Robinson Stadium. QB Jon Daniels was eight of 20 for 130 yards and 1 TD. WR Ryan Maxwell caught 3 passes for 74 yards and 1TD. He also rushed 2 times for 28 yards and 1 TD. He also returned a punt 88 yards for a TD. The return was the longest in school history breaking the mark of 84 yards set in 2003 by Ryan Nienhuis at Redlands. RB John Angelo rushed 13 times for 76 yards. Defensively, the Eagles were led by Cumming’s 13 tackles and Aldridge’s and Conner Plante’s 10 tackles apiece. Logan Harrell logged his second sack of the season while Brad Dixon earned Defensive Lineman of the Game for his five tackle performance.

Eagles 26 - Kealakehe 0
John Angelo rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown while Ross Cumming recorded 14 tackles and scored a touchdown of his own to lead the Eagles to a convincing 26-0 win over Kealakehe high before a crown of 2,500 at Waverider Stadium in Kialua-Kona Hawaii. Defensively, despite allowing 224 yards rushing the Eagles allowed 88 on them on three fake punts meaning the defense allowed 132 yards rushing on 47 carries (an average of only 2.8 per carry). They also allowed only two completions in seven attempts for 36 yards. Kyle Aldridge picked up 12 tackles in his first start as the Eagles middle linebacker while Fred Carrera‘s seven tackles and 1.5 sacks earned him KWRM’s Defensive Player of the Game honors.

The Mike Jacot Show
The Eagles are excited to announce that Head Coach Mike Jacot will be featured on The Mike Jacot Show this fall. Rob Buska of the KWRM Sports Radio team (KWRM AM 1370) will host the show from Wood Ranch BBQ in Rancho Santa Margarita on Tuesday nights this fall from 7-8 pm. The show will be broadcast over the restaurant PA system, KWRM AM 1370 and on www.eaglesfootball.com. The Mike Jacot Show will run weekly through November 15th. The show will be broken out into four segments with segment 1 devoted to a recap of last week’s game. Segment 2 will preview the upcoming game and segment 3 will feature trivia contests and a Q & A session with Coach Jacot. Wrapping it up in segment 4 will be player interviews.
