Game 4 Quickfacts - Fountain Valley
| The Fountain Valley contest marks the Eagles third road game in the first four weeks of the season and second against an Orange County opponent. The Eagle shave posted a 3-1 record at Huntington Beach High School including a 2-1 mark vs. Fountain Valley. This is the seventh game between Santa Margarita and the Fountain Valley Barons and their fourth meeting at HBHS. Last year, The Eagles rebounded from an early 14-0 deficit to post a 28-20 win over Fountain Valley before a sellout crowd of 5,000 at Saddleback College. In 2002, Ashton White rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Eagles to a 28-7 win at HBHS’s Sheue Field. In 1994, the Barons overcame Matt Nickel’s 128 yards receiving to beat the Eagles 29-17 at Orange Coast College. In 1995, Chris Collins threw for 203 yards and two Tds, but a blown extra point was the difference in a 28-27 Baron win. In 1996, Billy Newman rushed for 230 yards and returned a punt for a 60-yard score as the Eagles trounced the Barons 31-0 at Saddleback College. In 1997, the Eagles, led by John Minardi’s school-record 242 yards receiving, won their 16th game in a row with a thrilling 27-21 victory before 6,000 fans at Sheue Field. The Barons are 1-3 this season and are coming off a tough 16-14 loss to Vista. In 2003, the Barons finished 8-4 and won the Sunset League. They advanced to the CIF-SS Division I quarterfinals where they were defeated 35-7 by Mater Dei. They are led by first-year Head Coach John Shipp who is 1-3 (.250) at Fountain Valley.
