| The Dorsey game marks the home opener for Santa Margarita. They are 11-3-1 (.767) in their first home game of the season and have not lost a home opener since their 38-27 loss to Servite in 1996. The Eagles are off to a 1-0 start for the third straight year and have not lost in week 1 since they fell 17-12 at Trabuco Hills in 1994. The Eagles have now gone 9-0-1 in their last ten season openers, and 12-3-1 overall. Their last opening game loss was in 1994 when they fell 17-12 at Trabuco Hills. They are also 13-3 in road openers. The Eagles are ranked 10th in the Orange County Sportswriters Week 2 Football Poll and 29th in Southern California per CaliforniaPreps.com. This is the second game between Santa Margarita and the Dorsey Dons and the second meeting between the Eagles and a Los Angeles City Section school. In 2002, The Eagles posted their first shutout since 1998 as senior linebacker Dustin Slinkard forced two key turnovers to lead Santa Margarita to a workmanlike 5-0 win over defending City Section Champion Dorsey before 4,000 fans at Saddleback College. The Dons entered the contest sporting a 2-0 record and the game was a match-up of solid defensive units as neither team was able to consistently threaten the other. A 42-yard field goal by Jason Graban and a safety by Josh Thornburg provided the scoring, while Ashton White led the offense with 106 yards rushing. A full recap of the 2002 games is included herein. The Dons finished 12-1 in 2003 losing to Carson 19-18 in the
LA City Section Semi-finals. They are led by longtime Head Coach
