This is Santa Margarita's 127th varsity game, and 66th home game. The Eagles are currently 95-30-1 (.758) as they enter Week 3 of their 11th varsity season. 1999 is the Eagles first season competing in CIF-SS Division I.

The Eagles' all-time home record is 52-12-1 (.808), and they are 47-10-1 (.819) at Saddleback College.

The Eagles loss to Carlsbad was only the second time that they have lost their second game of the season. They are 9-1 in Week 3 games with their only loss at home to Servite in 1996 (38-27).

The Eagles are averaging 22.0 points per game in 1999, slightly behind last year's 23.9 average, but far behind their all-time average of 28.7 and season average of 46.5 points per game set in 1997. That year the Eagles set a team record with 88 touchdowns and established an Orange County record with 651 points.
