Game 8 - Irvine Location: 4321 Walnut, Irvine, 92714 Athletic Director: Rick Curtis Series Facts: Another Classic. The 1996 game was a defensive battle with SM pulling out a 17-0 win in heavy winds. The defense completely riddled the Irvine front, and a 9 minute drive in the 3rd and 4th quarter iced the game for the Eagles. In what was one of the most exciting games in SM Football history, Jeff Zaist's 46 yard field goal as time ran out gave SM a 17-14 win to open league play in 1995. The Eagles spoiled the Vaqueros playoff hopes with a 21-18 win in 1994. The loss put Irvine in a tie for third with El Toro, but they lost the coin toss and missed the playoffs. In 1993 the Vaqueros came back to post a 29-26 win. 1992's game was on of the top high scoring matches of the year as Irvine won the see-saw battle, 40-34.
