- 1996 Eagles players picked up both Sea View League MVP awards,
while seven were named to the First Team, Six were Second Team,
and four were Honorable Mention. Billy Newman was named the Offensive
MVP and Damien Minna was selected as the Defensive MVP (There
is no overall MVP). Carson Palmer, Stan Bennett, Shaun Jackson,
John Minardi, Matt Strickroth, Brett Crowder and Andrew Holstein
were First Teamers. Bryce Jackson, Jason Rowell, Austin Jayred,
Matt Brooks, Andy Hopper, and Nick Sparks were Second Teamers.
Casey Grzecka, Chris Long, Billy O'Connor and Ryan Thigpen were
selected as Honorable Mention.
- Damien Minna and Billy Newman were named Defensive and Offensive
Players of the Year respectively for CIF Division V. Their accomplishments
led to the retiring of their jerseys at the Eagles' annual awards
banquet. Numbers 2 and 4 will never be worn again by and Eagle
Football player. Stan Bennett, Brett Crowder, Austin Jayred, and
returning WR/FS John Minardi were named All-CIF Division V. Bennett,
Crowder, Jayred, Minna, and Newman were also named to the All
South Orange County Team.
- LB Damien Minna and OT Stan Bennett were the first Eagles to
be named to the prestigious All-Southern Section Team. RB Billy
Newman received national recognition as he was selected to Super
Prep's All-Far West Team.
- Stan Bennett, Brett Crowder, Damien Minna, and Billy Newman
are scheduled to play in the 38th Annual Orange County North/South
All-Star Football Game to be played on Friday, Ju7ly 11th at Orange
Coast College. The Eagle Coaching staff has been selected to coach
the south squad.
- A Record Eleven Eagles will continue their playing days on college
campuses. All-CIF RB Billy Newman will attend Washington State,
OL/DL Bryce Jackson will play for Fresno State. They will become
the seventh and eighth former Eagles to play at Division I schools.
OT Stan Bennett will attend Villanova, DB Brett Crowder will play
for Georgetown, DE Austin Jayred will go to UC Davis, and TE Chris
Long will suit up for the University of San Diego. LB Damien Minna,
WR Brian Prenevost, OL Ryan Thigpen and RB/DB Brett Zinn will
play for Coach Bill Cunerty at Saddleback Junior College.
