Eagles vs. CdM Sea Kings

Game 5
October 8, 1993
Newport Harbor High School

Corona del Mar 14 - Eagles 7
The roof caved in on the Eagles in their second league game due to three turnovers and 15 penalties for 134 yards.

The Sea Kings took advantage of the miscues and went 80 yards late in the fourth quarter to win, 14-7.

The drive was aided by three Eagle penalties before Aaron Perlmutter scored on a three-yard run.

On the previous drive it looked like the Eagles would put away the Sea Kings, but a costly penalty nullified a nine-yard touchdown pass from Derek Yankoff to Brian Finneran. As a result of the penalty, SM was forced to try a 40-yard field goal by Ryan Korinke which went wide.

The Eagles started on fire and scored on its first possession. Yankoff found Brian Finneran over the middle for a 13-yard score.

Corona del Mar scored at the end of the half on a one-yard run by J.R. Walz, but the PAT pass failed, leaving the Eagles ahead, 7-6.

The loss left the Eagles a game behind Irvine and Newport Harbor in the Sea View race.

"This is a team we should have beaten," Coach Jim Hartigan said. "That's what I am concerned about. This is a team that could take our playoff spot or win the league championship now."
