Family Man
Besides the normal pressures that go along with being a
normal student-athlete, All-American wide receiver Brian
Finneran has additional resposibilities that he must deal
with on a daily basis. In addition to catching footballs
and keeping up on his commerce and finance studies, Finneran
is both a husband and father. Brian, and his wife Erin,
are the parents to three-year old son, Conor and 19-month
old daughter, Brynn.
"The schedule can get pretty hectic," said Finneran.
"You learn to make adjustments. I think it is tougher
on my wife Erin, because she is alone with two young kids
most of the day. I'm pretty laid back. My outlook on life
is kind of go get it done, do what you have to do. Don't
make a big fuss about it. Sometimes Erin gets a little caught
up in all the everyday things. Those are the times you have
to sit back and thank God for what you have and just get
through it. We have accepted the situation we put ourselves
in and dealt with it. If you'd told me four years ago that
I would have been able to deal with it all, I would have
said you were crazy. But everything has been for the best.
I wouldn't change a thing."
While Finneran may think that he is no different that anybody
else, his coach feels he is as special as they come. "He's
been a franchise player since he got here, and he has handled
a lot of adversity with a great deal of class," said
Villanova head coach Andy Talley. "His wife likes to
say she has three children. It's not an easy life. Plus
he's in one of the toughest curriculums we have. But he's
got a lot of character. He dosen't get fazed by much. There's
an inner drive, an emotion, that's going all the time."
