John is a 1997 Graduate and was the CIF-SS Division VI Defensive MVP his senior year while leading the Eagles to an undefeated 14-0 season. As a Senior, John was the league's defensive MVP, CIF Div. V Defensive MVP, was All-CIF SS, and played in the California - Texas Shrine game. John is one of only 4 Eagles to have his Jersey retired. John was recently voted as the top All-Around Football player in Santa Margarita Football history on a website poll.

John received a full scholarship to the University of Colorado. In 2000, John won the Bill McCartney Award (special teams achievement) for Colorado. As a senior John was honored as a Team Captain for the Buffaloes. John recently signed a free agent contract with the Houston Texans.
